Teaching the students to be sustainable for the future is an important part of the Mentone Primary School Curriculum. Each level includes sustainable issues in their program and encourages sustainable practices at the school.

Sustainability Club

This lunchtime club provides an opportunity for the students interested, to work on Sustainability projects. The projects could be personal, group, school-wide or for the wider community. Students from grade 5 and 6 have been inspired to create a more sustainable school by promoting energy and water saving, recycling, composting, and improving the school gardens. There is a sustainability section in the Newsletter and a space on the Ultranet.

The Green Team

Each year a representative from grade 1 to 6 is chosen to be a part of the Green Team. They’re main task is to promote sustainable practices in their classroom such as: switching off, emptying recycle bins, emptying compost bins, encouraging ‘nude food’ lunches.

I Sea, I Care’ award

Mentone Primary is pleased to announce it is a joint recipient of the 2015 ‘I Sea, I Care’ award for School of the Year! We were named together with St. Catherine’s, for our work towards sustainability and teaching in school.

A special mention to our ‘I Sea, I Care’ ambassadors who presented on the award evening and shared a song they wrote especially for the occasion called ‘Save the Bay’.

We are very pleased with the recognition of all our actions to make our school sustainable and proud to be helping spread this very important message.
