Mentone Primary School provides a wide range of extra-curricular activities, in addition to the core learning and teaching curriculum. These activities aim to;

- further enrich student learning

 - provide opportunities for students to discover new interests and talents

 - provide opportunities for students to socialise and interact in multi-age situations

 - be fun and enhance student engagement

Outdoor Education:

Mentone Primary students from Grades 3-6 have attended residential camps now for many years at various locations across Victoria. In addition, in 2014 new and exciting challenges were introduced for our students in the learning areas of Outdoor Education. Students now have the opportunity to experience ‘surfing taster’ lessons with Island Surf’s professional surf coaches at Phillip Island, and enjoy excursions to the Hardrock Indoor Climbing Centre in the Melbourne CBD.

 In 2015 a one day skiing excursion to Mt Buller was also added to the Outdoor Education programme, including Ski School and free-ski sessions on the nursery and beginner slopes of Bourke Street.

 “Outdoor Education promotes the potential for lifelong participation in physical activity through the development of motor skills and movement competence, health-related physical fitness and sport education. Engaging in physical activity, games, sport and outdoor recreation contributes to a sense of community and social connectedness. These are vital components of improved wellbeing.”
